For a good six months, I have been eagerly anticipating the release of Forza 4 for the Xbox 360 - I played Forza 3 for hours on end, in the career mode and online with Friends, with randoms and even in some well organised leagues. 13th October came, and my order from Shopto arrived a day early - and I was excited.

We are now two weeks down the line, I should be progressing nicely. But I'm not. I'm not really sure why either. So let me go over some points about this game.

Graphics and Presentation

Stunning. Visibly the best thing I have seen on this console - especially the Swiss Alps. The cars are gorgeous, reflections and details like I have never seen. Driving using the cockpit view is a real pleasure too, you really get a good feel of driving, which is what you want. Once you get used to the layout of the menus, it all makes sense where things are and the game as a whole feels very polished. Personally, I would love them to introduce some weather elements into this though just to give each track some variety.

OK, my passing manoeuvre could have gone better. But just look at the mountain view!

Sound

The engine sounds are superb, make sure you turn the in-game music off, it is dreadful!

Gameplay

Feels better that Forza 3, cars seem to respond really well - and I've found that driving anything rear wheel drive is so much fun. The career is far better with more variety than Forza 3 - seasons are shorter and some nice additions with the Top Gear fun. They added five or so new tracks to Forza 4, but removed a few of the older ones, not really good enough in my book, and after a while you just wonder what you really have got for your money this time around.

Online

This is where I feel let down by Forza 4. It seems to me that I spend more time trying to get into an Online game than actually racing. There are times when you are seemingly about to start a race to then find yourself agonisingly back in the lobby to either wait, so go and find another game. It's fine if you are in a party and are organising Private races, but a quick online race just doesn't happen for me.

Summary

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the ultimate racing game on the market - but Forza 4 is let down by two major factors in my opinion. Firstly, the online side of the game is just too frustrating; and secondly, and most importantly, it just feels like an upgrade rather than a new title, it feels it could have just been some Download Content.
